Islay Erika Bomogao is ready to kick off 2025 for Filipino combat sports as she steps back into the ONE Championship spotlight this Friday, January 10, at ONE Friday Fights 93 in Bangkok, Thailand. Fighting at Lumpinee Stadium, Bomogao will face Ran Longshu in a highly anticipated 101-pound catchweight Muay Thai bout.
Bomogao’s Rising Star
The 24-year-old Bomogao made waves in her ONE Championship debut last November with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Fuu. The experience, coupled with the energy of competing on Muay Thai’s biggest stage, left a lasting impression on the Filipino standout.
“I love the spotlight. I love the loud people,” Bomogao shared in an earlier interview. “Everyone in the stadium was excited and happy. I felt warm and welcomed.”
Now, Bomogao returns to continue her rise in the sport, but her opponent, Ran Longshu, has other plans. Both fighters aim to make a statement early in the year, setting the tone for their 2025 campaigns.
A Big Weekend for Filipino Fighters
Bomogao’s return marks the start of an exciting weekend for Filipino combat sports. Just hours after her fight, Denice “The Menace” Zamboanga will compete in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 27 on January 11 (Saturday morning, PH time). Zamboanga will battle Alyona Rassohyna for the coveted ONE Interim Atomweight MMA World Title at the same iconic venue.
A successful weekend for both Bomogao and Zamboanga could energize the Philippines’ presence in ONE Championship, as Filipino fighters are expected to have a busy and impactful year in the promotion.
What’s Next?
With Bomogao aiming to establish herself as a top contender in Muay Thai and Zamboanga vying for world title glory, 2025 could be a breakout year for Team Philippines in the global combat sports scene.
