Spikers’ Turf Semifinals: King Crunchers, HD Spikers begin title drive

The Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference semifinal round kicks off Wednesday, December 4, with a doubleheader at the FilOil EcoOil Centre, promising thrilling volleyball action as teams vie for a spot in the finals.

The stakes are higher, the competition fiercer, and elimination-round records now mean little as the round-robin semifinals commence. The opening game at 4 p.m. pits elimination leader Criss Cross against a determined DN Steel FEU squad, while the second game at 6 p.m. features a heated rematch between Cignal HD Spikers and Savouge.

Adding to the excitement is the arrival of Japan’s Hyogo team, which will observe its competition before debuting on Friday. Known for their disciplined and precise play, Hyogo’s entry elevates the tournament organized by Sports Vision to a new level of intensity.

Semifinals Spotlight

Criss Cross vs DN Steel FEU (4 p.m.)

Criss Cross enters the semis on a six-game winning streak, led by stars Jude Garcia, Gian Glorioso, and former league MVP Nico Almendras, who recently posted a tournament-high 19-point performance.

“We’ll stick to our coaches’ game plan and focus on what needs improvement,” Almendras said, emphasizing the team’s discipline under coach Tai Bundit.

DN Steel FEU, however, is eager to shake off its underdog status, banking on gritty performances from Dryx Saavedra, Mikko Espartero, and Jelord Talisayan to avenge their earlier loss to Criss Cross.

Cignal vs Savouge (6 p.m.)

Cignal HD Spikers, riding a seven-game winning streak, are determined to continue their dominance. Head coach Dexter Clamor stressed the importance of avoiding complacency despite their success in the elimination round.

“Complacency has no place in the semifinals,” Clamor said. “Previous victories don’t guarantee future wins.”

Cignal will rely on its potent lineup, led by setter Owa Retamar, who orchestrates the team’s offense, including heavy hitters Louie Ramirez, Jau Umandal, and Mark Calado.

Savouge, meanwhile, is looking to replicate their elimination-round upset of Cignal. Dynamic players like Norwel Sanama, Hero Austria, and Sherwin Caritativo aim to step up their game and shock the HD Spikers once again.

International Flavor: Hyogo Arrives
The lone guest team, Japan’s Hyogo, arrives today, adding a new layer of intrigue to the tournament. Known for their exceptional teamwork and technical skills, Hyogo’s presence poses a unique challenge for the semifinalists.

The Spikers’ Turf semifinals promise unforgettable matches as teams push their limits to secure a spot in the finals. Don’t miss the action!
