Peter Uihlein showcased his dominance at the US$2.5 million International Series Qatar, capturing a five-shot victory at the Doha Golf Club. His triumph marked his second win on The International Series this year and propelled him to the top of the series rankings.
The American golfer, who led since day two, closed with a composed three-under-par 69, finishing at 16-under for the tournament. His exceptional performance throughout the weekend, including missing only five greens in challenging conditions, highlighted his control and precision.
“It was a solid weekend,” said Uihlein. “The wind was tough, but I stayed in control. The putt on 15 was a turning point, and making those birdies at the end felt like icing on the cake.”
Schwartzel and Oosthuizen Among the Top Performers
South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel delivered the round of the day with a 68, finishing second. Schwartzel started strong with an eagle on the par-five first and attributed his performance to his outstanding putting.
Compatriot Louis Oosthuizen tied for third with the Philippines’ Miguel Tabuena, two shots back. Both players navigated the challenging conditions with rounds of 71 and 70, respectively.
John Catlin Wraps Up Asian Tour Order of Merit
American John Catlin tied for 19th with a closing 71, which was enough to secure the Asian Tour Order of Merit title with one event remaining—the US$5 million PIF Saudi International. Catlin’s consistent season places him second on The International Series Rankings, setting up a thrilling finale next week.
Other Highlights
- South African Dean Burmester, India’s Anirban Lahiri, Spain’s Eugenio Chacarra, and Thailand’s Suteepat Prateeptienchai finished tied for fifth on eight under.
- Australian Jed Morgan made a significant move in the standings, ensuring his spot in the top 65 and retaining playing rights for next season.
Redemption for Uihlein
Uihlein’s victory was particularly meaningful after narrowly missing out on a win at the International Series Thailand earlier this year. His consistent form and mental approach have positioned him as a strong contender for the season finale in Saudi Arabia, where the series rankings remain wide open with 1,000 points up for grabs for the winner.
“I feel like my game is trending in the right direction,” said Uihlein. “It’s all still up in the air next week, but I’m feeling confident.”
