The Master Butchers finally found their rhythm, breaking a six-game losing streak with an emphatic 25-19, 25-20, 25-19 victory over the Titans in the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference on Sunday, November 17, at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig.

In a battle of winless teams, the Butchers displayed a sharp, cohesive game plan that overwhelmed the Titans. Their offense, anchored by the powerful Renz Cruz, and their disciplined defensive approach proved too much for their opponents.

“We’re so happy to finally secure a win after a series of tough losses,” said Cruz, who led the charge with 10 points, including six attacks, two blocks, and two aces. His all-around performance earned him the Player of the Game honors.

Cruz emphasized the team’s improved defense, saying:

“Defense was key for us. When our receptions faltered, we made up for it with solid blocking.”

The Butchers’ defensive tenacity consistently shut down the Titans’ attempts to gain momentum, while their offensive precision kept them in control throughout the match.

Martelli Meats’ middle blocker Lorenz Calayag sealed the victory with a decisive kill, ending the Titans’ faint resistance as they saved two match points late in the third set.

While the win came too late to affect the semifinal race, with the Butchers already eliminated after an 0-6 start, it provided a morale boost for the team. They now aim to play spoiler in their final match against the Navy Sealions on November 27.

Head coach Michael Conde credited the team’s relaxed mindset for the victory, saying:

“This is the win we’ve been waiting for. Without the pressure, the players could enjoy the game and execute the strategies we practiced.”

Cruz received solid support from Angelo Reyes and Kenrod Umali, who added nine and eight points, respectively. Setter Wilbert Cebrero orchestrated the offense with 10 excellent sets, while Ricardo Alfaro anchored the floor defense with 17 excellent receptions.

For the Titans, it was another frustrating outing, marking their eighth straight loss. Jonathan Sorio once again led the team with 14 points, including three blocks and an ace. Christian Alicante contributed 11 markers.

The Titans will conclude their campaign on November 27 against the powerhouse Criss Cross King Crunchers, aiming to salvage some pride in their final match.

The Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference is organized by Sports Vision and supported by ArenaPlus, Mikasa, and Alpha Insurance & Surety Company.
