D’Artagnan Potts and Jack Pearse clinched the Asian Senior Beach Volleyball Championship title in a thrilling all-Australian final, overcoming seasoned opponents Mark Nicolaidis and Izac Carracher with a hard-fought 21-19, 21-19 victory on Sunday, November 10, at the Nuvali Sand Courts. The young pair, aged 21 and 22 respectively, showed remarkable composure and synergy throughout the 40-minute match, achieving their most impressive performance of the five-day tournament.
Potts and Pearse demonstrated both skill and resilience to claim the win against Nicolaidis and Carracher, who previously competed in the Paris Olympics. “Our team connection was really good,” Pearse commented on their synergy. “They’re a really great team, and beating them shows the potential we have.”
The tournament, featuring top teams from 14 Asian countries with high AVC and FIVB rankings, presented a challenging path to the finals. Potts reflected on the difficult matches they faced from the onset, expressing pride in overcoming their compatriots to secure the win. “Jack and I just kept building from the first match, even when the games weren’t going as planned,” he added.
The unstoppable duo went unbeaten in the tournament, previously defeating the Philippines’ Lerry John Francisco and Rancel Varga in straight sets in the preliminary rounds. Their powerful teamwork and focus ensured their place atop the podium.
In the women’s division, Australian duo Jana Milutinovic and Stefanie Fejes claimed the bronze medal with a solid 21-15, 21-19 win over Japan’s Asami Shiba and Saki Maruyama. Meanwhile, Iran’s Abbas Pourasgari and Alireza Aghajanighasab secured third place in the men’s division, defeating China’s Wu Jiaxin and Ha Likejiang 21-15, 21-17.
