The Cignal HD Spikers showcased resilience and composure under pressure, securing a straight-set victory over D’Navigators Iloilo in a gripping Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference match on Sunday at the Ynares Sports Arena. Despite moments of struggle, Cignal finished strong with a 25-16, 25-23, 26-24 scoreline, marking their third consecutive win since their narrow five-set loss to the Savouge Spin Doctors, now boasting a solid 4-1 record.
D’Navigators fought valiantly, especially in the later sets, but ultimately succumbed to a fifth consecutive defeat. After a shaky start in the first set, the Iloilo team regrouped and mounted competitive plays in both the second and third frames. Their efforts pushed Cignal to the edge in the third set, where they held a 24-22 lead, looking poised to extend the match.
Reflecting on the performance, Clamor shared his confidence in his team’s depth: “Actually nung third set kasi ginamit namin ‘yung second six. So dapat laging ready, kasi ‘yung team na ‘to equally talented players eh. Dapat lang ‘yung second stringers isipin nila kapag gagamitin sila is to contribute,” he said. “Ganun ‘yung tiwala ko sa kanila na magde-deliver sila.”
With the win, the HD Spikers now set their sights on an upcoming clash with the unbeaten La Salle-EcoOil Green Oilers, promising another exciting showdown on Friday at 6 p.m. Meanwhile, D’Navigators will seek redemption against the VNS Griffins on Sunday at 4 p.m. as they work to break their losing streak in this intense volleyball tournament organized by Sports Vision, powered by ArenaPlus, Mikasa, and Alpha Insurance & Surety Company.
