PVL Champions to Represent Philippines in Asian Volleyball League

The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) has been officially recognized as the Philippines’ premier and only professional volleyball league by Tats Suzara, President of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) and the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC). Suzara made this declaration during the PVL’s 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference press conference in Manila, where he emphasized the league’s critical role in advancing Philippine volleyball on the national and international stage.

Originally launched as Shakey’s V-League in 2004, the PVL achieved professional status in 2021, marking a turning point for the sport in the Philippines. This year’s All-Filipino Conference, sponsored by Arena Plus, Fabriano Appliances, Milcu, Watsons, iColor, and Argan Beauty, will be the league’s longest tournament to date, running for six months in alignment with the global FIVB calendar.

Preparing for the AVC Champions League

The champion team of the All-Filipino Conference will represent the Philippines at the AVC Champions League in Seoul, South Korea. To ensure the team’s full focus on the competition, PVL will cover all travel and accommodation expenses, relieving the club of financial burdens typically associated with international tournaments.

In a strategic move to increase competitiveness, PVL now permits each team to recruit two foreign players, allowing for roster enhancements that bring international experience and elevate the quality of play. This alignment with international standards not only strengthens teams domestically but also prepares them to face top clubs in Asia.

Suzara underscored the league’s commitment to international success, stating, “The PVL is dedicated to fully supporting our representative club in the AVC Champions League. Thanks to our collaboration with PVL President Ricky Palou, we are ensuring that all essential travel and logistics are managed.”

Enhancing Officiating and Training Standards

To further elevate the league’s standards, the PNVF has appointed international referee Yul Benosa as PVL’s head officiating coordinator. For heightened fairness, neutral referees will officiate in the semifinal and final rounds, ensuring adherence to global officiating standards.

The league has also launched a technical workshop for referees, coaches, and players, focused on the latest rules, techniques, and strategies. This workshop aims to strengthen the skills of all participants and enhance the overall game experience for players and fans alike.

“We’re thrilled to provide this workshop, which brings everyone up-to-date with the latest techniques,” said Palou. “With the PNVF’s support, we’re committed to pushing PVL to new heights in both domestic and international arenas.”

The Road Ahead for PVL and Philippine Volleyball

As the PVL champions prepare to compete on Asia’s grand stage, the league’s growing alignment with international standards signifies a new era for Philippine volleyball. By providing financial support, recruiting international talent, and enhancing officiating quality, PVL is paving the way for Filipino athletes to shine both at home and abroad.

The 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference promises an exciting season of high-level volleyball, setting the stage for PVL’s champions to showcase Filipino talent on the global stage in the upcoming AVC Champions League.
