Marina Tushova sets PVL ablaze with record-breaking performance

Marina Tushova made an unforgettable debut in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), leaving a lasting mark with her incredible firepower and professionalism. The Russian standout turned Capital1 into a formidable contender, shaking up the league and earning the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week title for her stellar performance from August 20 to 24.

Despite Capital1 falling just short of the semifinals, Tushova saved her best for last, setting a new PVL scoring record with 50 points in a grueling five-set quarterfinal loss to Cignal, 19-25, 34-36, 25-16, 25-22, 12-15. This marked the third time she broke the league’s all-time scoring record.

The 25-year-old wing spiker’s all-around game featured 47 attacks, two kill blocks, a service ace, 16 excellent receptions, and 12 digs. Her remarkable performance earned her the third Player of the Week award, recognizing her impact on the team and the league.

Humble and gracious, Tushova expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to showcase her talent in front of Filipino fans, contributing to Capital1’s historic run to its first-ever playoff appearance.

“The team is so sad, but it’s a great lesson for us,” Tushova said. “You always learn more from lost games than from won games. I’m grateful for the experience and hope to return next year even stronger.”

Tushova first shattered the PVL scoring record on August 3 with a 45-point game against Choco Mucho, only to break it again a week later with a 49-point explosion against Nxled. Her ability to consistently deliver high-caliber performances has set a new standard in the league.
