The Philippine Fencing Association (PFA) is set to stage the first leg of its minime ranking for 2024 on May 18 and 19 at the Upper Ground B, Quantum Skyview of Gateway 2 in Araneta City starting at 10:00 a.m.
It will be the first of a three-series competition for the year. The event aims to rank the best 4 players for each age group and weapon at the end of the season.
Aside from this, the PFA also hopes that through the series, young fencers will get the necessary exposure through local competitions.
Through this initiative, local fencers not only develop their skills but also get the chance to get acclimatized to performing in front of audiences.
For the first leg, the PFA has extended invites to all accredited clubs. The association is anticipating about 200 to 250 participants to take part in the two-day event.
Further, the PFA plans to use the series of competitions to scout for new talent and hopefully produce another Samantha Catantan in the near future.
The agency added that there are already promising fencers who have shown potential, players who can potentially grow and represent the Philippines in future competitions.
