Makeover Needed: The campaign of F2 Logistics

Here’s the rub: I confess that I always explode in joy whenever my favorite team in the ongoing Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All Filipino Conference registers a bombastic victory.

That team of swag is named F2 Logistics and is composed mostly of volleybelles from UAAP champion De La Salle University. While F2 isn’t the most popular team in the PVL, it can never be denied that the Cargo Movers have already created a cult of yellow admirers.

Thanks to the organizing Sports Vision, women’s volleyball is not only alive and kicking but mesmerizing as well. Though superstar Alyssa Valdez’s condition isn’t in tip-top shape yet, Creamline parades attractions like Jema Galanza, Michelle Gumabao, Riza Sato and Tots Carlos. They are fine examples of determined women. Choco Mucho, Cherry Tiggo, Cignal, Akari, PLDT and Petro Gazz aren’t way behind as they boast of names like Ponggay Gaston, Shaina Adorador, Bea de Leon, Vanessa Gandler, the Laure sisters, Mylene Paat, Honey Tubino, Fifi Sharma. Sisi Rondina, Faith Nisperos, the Cheng sisters, Deanna Wong, Mary Mendrez, Mika Reyes and many more. Let us put in the mix rising stars like Trisha Tubu, Kate Santiago and veterans like Shang Berte, Jasmine Nabor and Aleona Manabat and you have an unforgettable conference.

For unexplainable reason, I like F2 to always emerge on top, Despite her age, Abby Marano’s talent, including leadership and swag are joyful to watch, while Jolina de la Cruz, Myla Pablo and a healthy Kim Dy are forever offensive threats. MJ Baron and Ivy Lacsina are reliables, while Kim Fajardo and dynamo Dawn Catindig will die to keep the ball alive.

Sadly, F2’s slide to mediocrity in the ongoing All Filipino is nightmarish for its followers(including yours truly).

As I see it, there’s no more fire in the eyes of the Cargo Movers. The plays are stagnant and the minds of the players are floating in thin air, unable to keep their focus.

Frankly, there is a problem with motivation.

Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm– Winston S. Churchill

I see no enthusiasm at all for my favorites. They easily wilt under pressure. They fail to sustain an energetic start and lack the will to survive.

I think it’s high time for coach Regine Diego to examine her role for the benefit of the team. I am not in the mood to say bad things but somebody must take the fault for F2’s slide. There is a saying that players get their kudos for winning, but coaches the blame for losing.

The failure of F2 in the PVL falls squarely onto the shoulders of Diego and the coaching staff. I am sure Diego is thirsty to guide the Cargo Movers to the leaderboard but it’s time to hand the coaching reins to others and bring back the glory. Total makeover not just make up is needed to save F2.

There is no doubt that basketball remains the national passion and don’t be surprised if young dribblers mostly coming from wonderful San Fernando, La Union will be able to polish their skills with the Academy League Federation The ALF is a brainchild of energetic Vice Mayor Alfred R. Ortega and ably supported by coach Jun da Jose as Camp Director and Armando Valencia as deputy camp director.

The skills and drills training program will last for eight weeks and will target boys and girls 10-12 and 13-15 years old.

The ALF, however, is just one of the sporting programs of Vice Mayor Ortega and the Friendship Cup Sports Foundation.

Adding spice to the ALF is the presence of former PABL and PBA big man Jovy Sese and commercial and college players handled by Da Jose.

With the ALF, big things are going to happen in La Union.
