Gilas Pilipinas fought back from a huge deficit to pull the rug from under host China, 77-76, in the men’s 5×5 basketball competitions at the 2023 Asian Games at the Zhejiang University Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China.
Justin Brownlee led the way for the Philippines, hitting the crucial three-point shots that were somehow reminiscent of the Jordan Clarkson performance against the same team in Manila, Philippines at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Brownlee, who was limited to only 6 points in the first half, finished with a team-high 33 points to go with five rebounds and four assists. Part of the naturalized player came from beyond the arc, going 7 of 12 for a 58% shooting clip.
Scottie Thompson backed up Brownlee with 13 points, eight rebounds, and 3 assists.
Zhao Rui led China with 18 points.
Gilas Pilipinas goes for the gold medal against Jordan on Friday, October 6 at 8:00 p.m.
