MAKATI FC’s boys under-14 capped a brilliant showing in the 2022 Malaysia Borneo Football Cup with a 2-1 win over St. George Australia Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Kota Kinabalu.
Joshua Moleje and River Solis netted first-half goals for Makati FC to secure the championship.
It was Solis’ 14th minute strike that gave Makati FC a place in the final, nipping Diklat Merden of Indonesia, 1-0, in the semifinal.
Makati FC boys U14 finished the tournament undefeated. In 2019, the club, representing boys U15, emerged as champions.
In the road to the finals, Makati FC swept Group B with a maximum of nine points.
Makati FC blanked TABS Malaysia, 2-0, edged Football West Australia, 3-2, and upended fellow Philippine youth club Malaya FC, 2-0, to complete the sweep.
Solis was the team’s top goalscorer with six goals, highlighted by a brace against the Australians.
Coaches SeLu Lozano, Bob Salvacion and founder Tomas Lozano led the Makati FC delegation.
“Our program continues to evolve and get better because of these international exposures. We aim that one day a lot more of our young filipino talents get the opportunity they deserve,“ said Coach SeLu Lozano, Makati FC Director and CEO.
“We’re very happy for what the boys have accomplished in this tournament and the club looks forward to paving bigger dreams for our Filipino youth.”
Makati FC will travel again in November, this time to compete in SingaCup, where the club will bring in five teams – namely two from Boys 10 and squads from Girls 14, Boys 12 and Boys 8.
