Pueblo De Oro Development Corporation Launches Summer Basketball League in Malvar

Pueblo de Oro Development Corporation (PDO) has officially launched the 1st Pueblo de Oro Summer Basketball League at Pueblo de Oro Townscapes Malvar, with Malvar Mayor Artemio “Art” Abu serving as Guest of Honor during the opening ceremony. The launch event brought together residents, employees, and community partners in a shared celebration of sports and local engagement.

The league is designed as an inclusive community platform that promotes camaraderie, teamwork, and healthy competition among participants within the growing Pueblo de Oro community. Organizers emphasized that the tournament is intended to strengthen relationships across different groups living and working within the development.

Community Sports Launch

The tournament features seven teams composed of residents from Pueblo de Oro Residences and Pueblo de Oro Townhomes, along with PDO employees, brokers, maintenance personnel, security staff, and contractors. Each team represents different sectors of the community, reflecting the inclusive nature of the league.

During the opening program, Malvar Mayor Artemio “Art” Abu highlighted the importance of community-based sports initiatives in strengthening local connections and encouraging active participation in recreational activities. He noted that events like this help build unity and promote a healthy lifestyle among residents.

The games officially opened with resident Mr. Robin Lirio leading the Oath of Sportsmanship, setting the tone for fair play and discipline throughout the tournament. Organizers stressed that sportsmanship will remain a core value for all participating teams.

The opening match saw the Vanguards face the Daddies Team, with the Daddies securing a 72–63 victory in a competitive contest that marked the start of the 12-weekend league schedule. The game set an early tone for competitive balance across participating squads.

The champion team will receive a cash prize of ₱10,000, while the runner-up will take home ₱5,000, adding an incentive layer to the community-driven competition. Organizers said the prizes are meant to recognize effort while keeping the focus on participation and engagement.

Weekend League Schedule

The 1st Pueblo de Oro Summer Basketball League will run for 12 weekends, with games scheduled every Saturday and Sunday across Pueblo de Oro Townscapes Malvar. The extended schedule is designed to encourage sustained community participation and regular engagement.

Organizers aim to establish the tournament as an annual tradition within the development, with long-term plans to expand into other sports such as volleyball in future editions. They also expressed interest in further strengthening community wellness programs through sports-based initiatives.
