Alas Pilipinas opens AVC Cup with sweep of Uzbekistan

Alas Pilipinas opened its AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup campaign in commanding fashion with a straight-sets win over Uzbekistan, 25-16, 25-12, 25-14, at the Candon City Arena in Candon City. The Philippine squad controlled the match from start to finish in Group A of the 12-nation tournament.

A veteran trio led the charge as Alyssa Valdez, Jovelyn Gonzaga and Ces Molina delivered consistent scoring throughout the match. The experienced core provided stability on offense while setting the tone for the national team’s opening-day performance.

Valdez finished with 14 points built on 11 attacks, two blocks and an ace, while Gonzaga added 12 points anchored by strong attacking and service pressure. Molina contributed 11 points as Alas Pilipinas maintained control across all three sets.

Middle blocker Nina Ytang also made a strong impact at the net, contributing key blocks and finishing with 12 points. Her presence helped the Philippines dominate in blocking against Uzbekistan.

Veterans lead Philippine start

The AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup opener highlighted the experience of Alas Pilipinas’ senior players, who provided consistent production in key moments. Their combined effort helped establish early control in Group A standings.

Valdez and Gonzaga led the scoring rhythm while Molina provided balance across attacks and serves. The trio’s performance anchored the team’s straight-sets win in Candon City.

Uzbekistan struggled to match the Philippines’ pace, with Malikakhon Tursunpulatova leading her side with 10 points in a losing effort.

Group results unfold

Defending champion Vietnam also opened its campaign with a dominant sweep of Lebanon, 25-3, 25-13, 25-14, to set the pace in Group B.

Kazakhstan survived a challenge from Hong Kong, securing a four-set win in another Group B matchup behind a strong 25-point performance from Tatyana Yatskiv.

The opening day results set early separation across both groups as the AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup continues in Candon City.
