PLDT secures spot in AVC Women’s Champions League alongside Creamline and Petro Gazz

The Asian Volleyball Confederation has granted the Philippines a third slot in the upcoming AVC Women’s Champions League, allowing the PLDT High Speed Hitters to join Creamline Cool Smashers and Petro Gazz Angels in the prestigious tournament.

Scheduled to take place from April 20 to 27, 2025, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City, the competition will feature top club teams from across Asia, marking a milestone for Philippine volleyball as the country hosts the event.

A chance to gain international experience

PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort expressed his excitement about competing at a higher level, acknowledging the opportunity for growth.

“Happy naman na masama kasi higher level of competition. Maraming matututunan at makukuhang experience,” Ricafort said.

The High Speed Hitters earned their place after finishing fourth in the PVL All-Filipino Conference, where they advanced to the quarterfinals. This makes them the third Philippine squad in the tournament, reinforcing the country’s strong presence in the regional volleyball scene.

A strong Philippine delegation

PLDT will be joining PVL powerhouse teams Creamline and Petro Gazz, both of whom have consistently been among the league’s top contenders. With the country serving as the host, Ricafort emphasized the importance of putting on a strong showing.

“We’ll do our best to represent PLDT and our country lalo na na tayo ang host,” he added.

Also confirmed for the tournament are Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima QminC and Vietnam’s VTV Bình Điền Long An, adding to the highly competitive field.

The drawing of lots to determine match schedules and groupings took place Wednesday, March 12.
