ONE 171 Qatar: Pacio-Brooks Trilogy and Haggerty’s Title Defense set to thrill fans

MMA fans are in for an explosive night at ONE 171: Qatar, as Joshua “The Passion” Pacio is set to face Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks in a long-awaited trilogy bout on February 20, 2025, at the Lusail Sports Arena. Alongside this highly anticipated co-main event is Jonathan “The General” Haggerty’s title defense against Chinese striker Wei Rui.

Pacio’s Road to Redemption

Filipino superstar Joshua Pacio, the reigning ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion, makes his long-awaited return nearly a year after sustaining an injury during his controversial rematch with Brooks at the same venue.

The last meeting between Pacio and Brooks ended dramatically when Brooks was disqualified for an illegal head spike that left Pacio injured. Despite being stretchered off, Pacio thankfully escaped serious head and spine injuries but aggravated a prior ACL tear, keeping him sidelined.

Now fully recovered, Pacio is determined to reclaim his dominance in the division by settling the score once and for all against his bitter rival.

Haggerty Headlines Against Wei Rui

The night’s main event features Jonathan Haggerty, the English striking phenom, defending his ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Title against Chinese kickboxing star Wei Rui. Known for his electrifying performances, Haggerty faces a formidable opponent in Wei Rui, a respected figure in the striking world.

ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong shared his excitement for the event:
“ONE 171: Qatar is already shaping up to be one of the biggest spectacles of the year. Jonathan Haggerty is a certified superstar, but he is set to face one of his toughest tests yet in Chinese icon Wei Rui. Also, I can’t wait to see the third fight between Joshua Pacio and Jarred Brooks to determine who will reign supreme as the undisputed ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion.”

Stacked Card Expected

While the full lineup for ONE 171 has yet to be announced, fans can expect a stacked card following the success of last year’s Qatar event. The combination of Pacio’s grudge match and Haggerty’s title defense guarantees an unmissable night of martial arts action.
