The VNS Griffins revived their semifinal hopes in the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference with a crucial 25-16, 27-25, 25-20 sweep of Chichi DHTSI on Wednesday, November 14,  at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig. This victory came as a much-needed boost for the Griffins, who had been struggling with a three-game losing streak.

With the win, VNS improved its record to 2-4, maintaining their position in the seventh spot and eliminating the winless Chichi DHTSI from semifinal contention. The Griffins’ performance showcased a great deal of growth, according to head coach Ralph Ocampo, who praised his team’s improvement in both practice and execution.

“Very happy kasi ‘yung practice namin lumabas. Ayun, ngayon kasi is all about growth. I’m very happy na lahat ng pinaghihirapan namin, lumalabas siya sa games,” said Ocampo.Ocampo also emphasized the importance of consistency, noting that their strong performance against FEU was overshadowed by a shaky outing against Navy. Moving forward, the focus would be to maintain their level of play consistently.

Leading the charge for the Griffins was CJ Segui, who registered 14 points, with 13 coming from attacks. Segui also contributed 10 excellent receptions during the match. Julius Arcillo dominated at the net with six kill blocks and added three attacks and an ace, contributing 10 points to the victory. Kenneth Daynata also played a key role, scoring 10 points.

Setting up the offense was Justin Yatco, who recorded 13 excellent sets, while Joshua Cruz made his presence felt with 12 excellent receptions and six excellent digs.

Looking ahead, the VNS Griffins will aim to build on this momentum when they face D’Navigators Iloilo on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at the same venue.

Meanwhile, Chichi DHTSI, now officially out of the semifinal race, fell to 0-7. Despite a 14-point performance from Christian Alicante and 12 points from captain Jonathan Sorio, the Titans were unable to secure their first win of the tournament. They will look to bounce back when they face Martelli Meats on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
